About the role
The Associate Dean is a member of the BYU Continuing Education (CE) Dean’s Office and serves as a member of the Dean’s executive leadership team. They serve as a member of CE leadership councils and represent CE on university councils and in meetings as assigned. This Associate Dean serves as the chief executive officer over assigned programs within CE and fulfills other responsibilities as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of assigned CE programs
- Development of strategy and proposal of annual strategic plan submissions and revisions
- Development and alignment of mission, goals, and measures with university and CE mission, goals, and measures
- Auditing budget proposals and budget adjustments for review by the Dean
- Fulfillment of strategic plans and budgets
- Facilitation of training opportunities to improve operational efficiency and quality of service offered
- Maintenance and building of teamwork and unity
- Facilitation of working relationships between supervised support departments and supported program areas
- Participation in CE executive leadership as a member of the Dean’s Office Council and the CE Leadership Council
- Attendance at meetings, conferences, and events representing CE
- Attendance at meetings and events in place of the Dean or other Associate Deans, as needed
- Management of employees under direct supervision
- Leadership of assigned programs
- Preparation and updating of job descriptions, selection of candidates, conducting interviews, and hiring employees
- Evaluation of employee performance throughout the year and review and approval of performance and development plans
- Encouragement of individual training opportunities for employees to improve operational efficiency and the quality of programs offered
- Overseeing contingency plans for all key functions and roles
- Performance of other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean
Requirements
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field
- 8 or more years of applicable professional experience, and 3 or more years of demonstrated management experience
- Effective communication and collaboration with CE leadership and direct reports
- Experience with strategic relationship-building
- Maintaining confidentiality and using discretion in all communications
- Understanding and following organization policies and processes
- Managing personal emotions and influencing those around you to foster a positive work culture
- Effectively modeling ethical standards and demonstrating integrity
- Using software for data analysis and preparing reports
- Effectively training and mentoring employees in professional responsibilities
- Identifying process improvements
- Managing issues related to applicable laws, regulations, and policies
- Making informed and complex decisions
- Able to travel as assigned
Preferred
- A Doctoral degree in a relevant field
- 10 or more years of relevant professional and academic experience, and 5 or more years of demonstrated management experience
- Working knowledge of areas of supervision

- Typical Starting Pay: $134,500 - $175,000
