Associate Chaplain, Per Diem

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate Chaplain, Per Diem. In this role, the successful candidate provides spiritual care to patients, their loved ones, and as appropriate, staff and hospital constituencies using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patient's belief and value system.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family spiritual needs and assist patients and families in using their spiritual resources in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress.
• Facilitate additional spiritual/religious support from community religious leaders, including specific sacramental or religious needs.
• Develop a plan of care and provide spiritual/emotional support to patients and families, including listening, providing presence, prayer, reading sacred texts, ethical guidance, and sacraments.
• Advise the manager of important patient/clinical issues as they arise.
• Respond to codes and traumas when designated as on-call chaplain.
• Mentor CPE students and volunteers, as assigned by the manager, and where appropriate.
• Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research.
• Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited.
• Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision.
• Participate in the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.
• Ensure a safe environment and effective communication with all age groups of patients served by the Pastoral Care Department.
• Adhere to Standards of Practice of the Association of Professional Chaplains and the principles and practices of Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy.
• Plan and lead worship opportunities, including interfaith memorial services, as assigned by the department manager.
• Lead bereavement and spirituality/study/support groups as assigned by the manager.
• Document all chaplaincy activities in a timely manner according to department protocols.
• Complete office or administrative tasks as assigned with expectation of computer literacy and in accordance with institutional policy.
• Provide support to staff, as individuals request it, or through participation in institutional events.
• Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among all chaplains.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, when possible, and facilitate communication between health care team members.
• Maintain a positive working relationship between the Pastoral Care Department and medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
• Serve on institutional committees as appointed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Arts in religious or pastoral counseling studies from an accredited school of theology, or equivalent.
• Successful completion of 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) recognized by the US Department of Education.
• Computer literacy and skill level in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Divinity Degree, Master of Arts in Religion, or Master of Pastoral Counseling from an accredited school of theology, or Ordination, or equivalent education and training.
• Successful completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) recognized by the US Department of Education.
• In process of ordination or commissioning by a recognized religious group.
• 1-2 years of experience as clergy or chaplain.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $28.00 - $28.00 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
