Associate Buyer (Trees & Outdoor Lighting)
Work Location: Home Office - Coppell, TX
Schedule: Hybrid – onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; remote Mondays and Fridays
About the role
The Associate Buyer (Trees & Outdoor Lighting) creates and executes merchandise strategies in partnership with the Buyer/Sr. Buyer to deliver Product Proud assortments that meet or exceed sales, margin, and turn requirements. This includes assortment selection and management, product development, and go-to-market efforts (marketing, in-store visuals, etc.). The role also partners with key functional peers—Planner, Sourcing Managers, and Visual Team—to implement strategies that maximize business opportunities pre-season, during season, and post-season.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute merchandise strategies in partnership with Buyer/Sr. Buyer, including assortment management and customer-facing visual and storytelling ideas.
- Support Buyer/Sr. Buyer in Product Development vision alongside a sourcing manager who administers processes and timelines.
- Travel and spend time in market for trend identification, category expertise, and identifying white-space opportunities.
- Work with National Brand product partners to understand the market, category, and curate assortments leveraging their expertise.
- In partnership with sourcing, maintain relationships with key private-label product partners to deliver Product Proud assortments, collaboratively drive business results, and professionally represent the At Home brand.
- Provide insights and actively participate in the OTB process to drive category P&L in collaboration with Sr. Buyer/Buyer and Sr. Planner/Planner.
- Analyze purchasing trends, sales data, and supplier performance; recommend actions pre-season, during season, and post-season.
- Provide a point of view on assortment changes based on market assessment, purchasing-needs prediction, and productivity assessment of sales data.
- Partner with Marketing, Digital, and Packaging teams to achieve strategic business objectives and Go-to-Market vision.
- Work closely with planning, sourcing, and visual teams to align merchandising with company goals.
- Support Buyer/Sr. Buyer with strategic initiatives and applicable milestone meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in retail buying/merchandising, planning, or related field.
- Merchandising or product development experience in decor is a plus.
- Creative and innovative skillset with the ability to identify emerging trends and regularly shop competition and market.
- Strong leadership and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships.
- Effective communication skills, translating information concisely in verbal and written form.
- Strong organizational skills and good time management.
- Willingness to travel for market and store trips.
- Innate curiosity and passion for product and customer satisfaction.
