About the role

We are seeking a driven Associate Attorney with a passion for litigation and a keen eye for detail to join our growing Texas First-Party Property practice. This role focuses on the defense of insurance carriers in first-party property disputes — including hail, windstorm, water, and fire damage claims — from initial coverage strategy through trial or resolution. While this position is based out of our Houston office, we welcome qualified candidates located in Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio, with flexibility that doesn't sacrifice professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a docket of first-party property defense matters across Texas state and federal courts, from inception through trial or settlement, while collaborating with senior attorneys on litigation strategy.
  • Analyze and litigate breach of contract, bad faith, and extra-contractual claims arising under Texas Insurance Code Chapters 541 and 542 (including Prompt Payment of Claims Act exposure) and the DTPA.
  • Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, and discovery; conduct depositions of policyholders, adjusters, public adjusters, and experts; handle examinations under oath and the appraisal process where invoked.
  • Represent carrier clients at hearings, mediations, and trial; prepare witnesses and retained experts.
  • Maintain regular, professional communication with claims professionals and in-house counsel, providing clear guidance on coverage issues, exposure, and case valuation.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas (in good standing).
  • Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience with a focus on first-party property defense; candidates with substantially equivalent backgrounds — such as insurance coverage, bad faith, general liability, or other insurance defense litigation — will also be considered.
  • Superior research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to manage strict deadlines independently.

Qualifications

  • Superior research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to manage strict deadlines independently.

Skills

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Effective oral advocacy and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle complex legal issues.

  • Competitive Compensation & Bonus Structure
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Including company-paid PPO health insurance, dental, and vision options.
  • Generous PTO & Well-Being Support: Paid time off, a floating holiday, and a mental health day.
