Associate Athletics Director for Sports Performance, Athletics (Internal Applicants Only)

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this leader will provide executive oversight for sports medicine, rehabilitation and preventive care, strength and conditioning, nutrition, mental health, and operational support for medical and clinical care for all student-athletes at Rowan University, an NCAA Division III member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight of the sports medicine department, including personnel, budget, operational, and student-athlete management.
  • Work closely and provide leadership to the Director of Strength and Conditioning to align systems, policies, and plans for peak performance and safe return to competition.
  • Coordinate a comprehensive nutritional and mental health program in collaboration with university departments and the Director of Strength and Conditioning.
  • Develop and maintain systems to monitor fiscal health, personnel performance, and system efficiencies to meet key performance indicators.
  • Serve as the department’s Senior Women’s Administrator (SWA).
  • Participate on the senior management team to shape strategic, budgetary, and personnel decisions.
  • Attend NJAC meetings and retreats; represent the department at regional and national committees.
  • Advocate for equity and support for all student-athletes.
  • Facilitate monthly and/or quarterly meetings with unit leaders to discuss and implement strategies and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, OSHA, HIPAA, FERPA, state licensure, and Board of Certification (BOC) standards.
  • Assist in developing and implementing departmental risk management initiatives.
  • Maintain all required certifications, licenses, and continuing education requirements.
  • Lead and demonstrate safe practices during practices, competitions, strength and conditioning activities, and team travel.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or master’s degree preferred; 10+ years of experience in collegiate athletics.
  • Certified by the NATA BOC and hold NC Athletic Training Licensure; familiarity with NCAA governing rules required.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification preferred.
  • Highly organized with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with campus and community partners.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with initiative, tact, diplomacy, and judgment in interactions with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this managerial position is $95,000.00 - $105,000.00, with placement determined by candidate’s qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.
