About the role

The Associate Athletic Trainer position is a full-time, exempt staff, twelve month position, with the primary sport assignment to Football. The Associate Athletic Trainer will serve as one of the full-time athletic trainers employed by the University of Indianapolis, under the direction of physicians from Community Health Network. The Associate Athletic Trainer will take on administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. This is a support position in athletic training providing treatment/rehabilitation, coverage during practices, home and away competitions for UIndy Football, and a non-travel spring sport to be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Take on administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine
  • Prepare and submit secondary insurance claims for athletic injuries
  • Facilitate communication between team physicians, professional staff, coaches, student athletes, parents and administrators
  • Coordinate student athlete appointments with team physicians and physical therapists
  • Coverage of the Athletic Training Facilities as the senior member of the staff in that facility
  • Coordinate University of Indianapolis and NCAA drug testing
  • Maintain a high morale among athletic training staff, athletic training students, student athletes, coaches and administrators
  • Assist with additional athletic training needs during the summer months which may include the following: Athletic Training room coverage, Inventory, ordering and restocking, Reviewing and updating policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Experience: 3-5 years as a certified athletic trainer preferred, Collegiate experience preferred, Football experience preferred
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications/Credentials: BOC Athletic Training Certification required, Indiana State Licensure (or eligible) required, CPR/AED Certification required

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all members of the health care team, coaches and athletic administration
  • Ability to manage athletic injuries
  • Ability to manage emergency situations with a calm demeanor
  • Knowledge of athletic training scope of practice
  • Ability to operate within this scope of practice

Physical Demands

  • Ability to be standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to withstand long exposure to hot and cold temperatures
