Job Summary
The Assistive Technology Specialist supports the Office of Student with Disabilities (OSD) in providing assistive technology and augmentative communication (AT/AC) devices to students with disabilities. This includes preparing and customizing equipment, troubleshooting, and maintaining devices. The position also involves collaborating on assistive technology projects and participating in professional development activities.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and customizing equipment for students based on Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC)
- Ensuring AT/AC staff equipment requests are processed and that allocated AT/AC equipment is in working order
- Configuring, troubleshooting, auditing, and repairing assistive technology hardware and software
- Aiding in the technical setup and installation of assistive technology
- Supporting cluster site resource programs with equipment setup, technical assistance, and training
- Assisting with inventory management and coordination of ATRC devices at the warehouse
- Collaborating on installation procedures and common troubleshooting guidelines
- Tracking new and/or returned inventory, technical support, repairs, and shipping for end-of-year reporting
- Researching and reporting on AT/AC equipment industry changes, upgrades, compatibility issues, and trends
- Participating in assistive technology projects as requested
- Designing, printing, and shipping new 3D objects
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience providing technical assistance and/or technology custom solutions within a large, complex organization
- Other Requirements: Access reliable transportation and travel to multiple sites in a day, ability to safely lift up to 50lbs, knowledge of assistive technology and CPS policies, practices, and technologies, ability to customize and support assistive technology in alignment with student and staff requirements, ability to design, implement, and support 3D print projects, excellent computer skills, ability to quickly learn and leverage CPS systems, experience with a variety of software and hardware products for students with disabilities, ability to intuitively and quickly learn new technology solutions, ability to meet deadlines, excellent organizational skills, ability to collaborate and be a team player, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, vendors, ITS, students, and/or parents, excellent verbal and written communication skills
