About the role
The Assistive Technology Specialist supports the Information Resources Accessibility Program (IRAP) within the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This role provides technical support for Assistive Technology (AT) as a reasonable accommodation and adheres to Section 508 guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Support end-users of Assistive Technology (AT)
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for both hardware and software
- Troubleshoot AT end-user issues assigned from the IRAP mailbox
- Contact AT vendors for assistance with troubleshooting or issues
- Participate in cross-functional teams to identify and craft solutions for new software/solutions
- Configure and teach others on using Dragon, ZoomText, and JAWS, as well as other Assistive Technologies
- Troubleshoot interoperability issues between mainstream hardware, software, and assistive technology
- Install hardware and software
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical area is desired
- No less than 3 - 7 years of relevant experience with Information Technology, preferably Assistive Technology
- Knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT), its performance, capability, and baseline interoperability
- Computer experience with mainstream applications such as MS Office
- Knowledge of features enhancing the accessibility and usability of websites and applications
- Knowledge of Section 508 testing purposes and experience with Section 508 accessibility testing
- Ability to independently demonstrate testing acumen to coordinate with AT testers
- Soft skills including effective communication, teamwork, time management, willingness to learn, empathy, organization, and critical thinking
- Physical demands: must be able to lift up to 35 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, twist, bend, and squat periodically
Qualifications
- Security clearance at the Public Trust (NAC) level required
- US citizenship required for a Public Trust (NAC) clearance at this location
