About the role

JFS Housing, Inc. develops affordable housing for low- and moderate-income individuals, families, seniors and people with disabilities. Our campus community in the Village of Brown Deer provides residents with more than a place to live, fostering social interaction while ensuring security and privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, coach, supervise, and orient Resident Assistant (RA) caregiver staff.
  • Schedule and direct daily duties and activities of RA staff.
  • Communicate with residents, family members, case managers, and others about resident care.
  • Schedule medical appointments and manage resident transportation calendar.
  • Perform administrative duties essential to RCAC operations.
  • Oversee daily operations of Deerwood assisted living programs, ensuring high standards of resident care and safety.
  • Update, implement, and monitor individualized care plans in conjunction with the Director of Assisted Living and RN.
  • Supervise direct care staff, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, orientation, and retention.
  • Ensure medication administration is conducted accurately and in compliance with regulations.
  • Manage staffing schedules and fill in on the floor as needed.
  • Manage clinical communication with outside entities (pharmacies, doctors, nurses, care teams, hospitals, rehabs, families, etc.) and update Director and RN as needed.
  • Track and ensure proper documentation in medical records (ECP).
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations related to the Deerwood RCAC license.
  • Coordinate and assist with training of Resident Assistants in accordance with Deerwood Crossing policies and state regulations.
  • Conduct regular audits of task lists and medication administration records (MARs) to ensure tasks are completed properly and as scheduled.
  • Hold bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with all Resident Assistant staff and route meeting notes for placement in employee files.
  • Serve on an on-call rotation.
  • Act as a liaison between staff, residents, residents’ families, physicians, Family Care team, and other healthcare providers.
  • Observe residents for emotional, behavioral, and physical changes in condition.
  • Review resident paperwork from medical appointments for changes in condition, medication changes, and upcoming appointments.
  • Oversee resident transportation schedule and address gaps in coverage as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents.
  • Utilize Nurse Call system and update as needed.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license with 2 years of LPN experience and 2 years managing a successful team; OR 5–7 years of manager experience in lieu of licensure.
  • Associates Degree required.
  • Approachable customer service orientation with sensitivity to a diverse resident population.
  • CBRF certified for medication administration, first aid/choking, fire safety, and standard precautions.
  • Current CBRF trainer or ability to be certified as a CBRF trainer (a plus).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn computer programs specific to the role, including an Electronic Medication Administration Record system and a Nurse Call system.
  • Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong and demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to serve on call for staff inquiries on a rotational basis.
  • Ability to occasionally work outside of regular work hours, as needed.
  • Ability to maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
  • Driving is a requirement for this role; valid driver’s license and auto insurance required.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and/or willingness to learn Jewish culture and traditions and those of the Agency population as necessary.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and a caregiver background check with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the Department of Children and Families, and the Department of Safety and Professional Services.
