Holy Family University is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, founded in 1954. The University is a private institution in the Catholic tradition with campuses in Philadelphia and Newtown, PA. The main campus is located in Northeast Philadelphia, a historic residential neighborhood just minutes from Center City. The Newtown campus is situated in Bucks County, surrounded by nature and close to parks, farmers' markets, and dining options.
Position Summary
The Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching, directing, and executing aspects of an NCAA Division II program. The role requires operating the program with integrity and in a welcoming manner that complies with NCAA, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Athletics Department, and University rules and regulations. The Assistant Coach must understand and embrace the mission of Catholic higher education and commit to Holy Family University's mission, goals, and objectives.
Essential Functions
- Handle game and practice coaching assignments throughout the year, as well as supervise out-of-season conditioning programs for the team.
- Be thoroughly familiar with and comply with all University, Department, NCAA, and CACC policies, rules, and regulations, and disseminate such information to assistant coaches and student-athletes, as appropriate.
- Recruit prospective student-athletes, using discretion and personal judgment in assessing talent and recommending scholarship assistance. Coordinate on-campus and off-campus recruiting efforts.
- Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards student-athletes, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and the community.
- Foster a healthy environment for student-athletes while promoting sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
- Aid in the preparation of, and adhere to, deadlines and specific dates for the timely completion of all forms and related materials.
- Collaborate with the Strength & Conditioning Coach/Athletic Training Staff to ensure the physical health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes. Provide on-site supervision during all team activities.
- Assist in fundraising initiatives and events.

Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- At least two years’ collegiate level coaching and recruiting experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community
- Proficient with computer software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- NCAA sport rules and regulations
- Game day management and best practices
- Sound independent judgment and ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
- Good time management and project management skills
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, analytical, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit for long periods of time
- Use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Reach with hands and arms
- Manual dexterity needed for computer keyboard operation
- Operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines
Other Important Information
- Teleworking may be necessary, requiring proficiency or willingness to become proficient in remote work technology.
- Night and weekend availability is required.
- Ability to drive a 15-passenger van is required.
