Assistant Veteran Services Officer - Veterans Service Office
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Two (2) years job related experience and four (4) years military service with any branch of the Armed Services with Honorable discharge.
- Experience with Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), Veterans Administration (VA) or Disabled Veterans of America (DVA) or Veterans benefits preferred.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
- Good organizational skills; multi-tasking and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to present presentation to small and large groups.
- Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications, (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint), Veteran Benefits Management System (VBMS), and VetPro.
- Maintain certification from Texas Veterans Commission; 40 hours training certification from National Association of County Service Officers.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Job Duties
- Meets with individual Veterans to ascertain needs, potential eligibilities and the process needed to obtain benefits.
- Advocates for the Veterans of Fort Bend County with service agencies and administrative agencies including the Veterans Administration and the Texas Veterans Commission.
- Promotes the services of the Veterans Service Office to the Veterans of Fort Bend County via outreach to Veterans’ organizations and civic organizations.
- Plans and coordinate Veteran Observances that honor Veteran and Surviving Spouses for their sacrifice to the Nation.
- Travels to permanent or temporary locations to provide services in each precinct of the county.
- Represents the Veteran Service Office at off-site speaking engagements, educating Veterans and Spouses on aspects of Veteran benefits.
- Performs other duties as required by Supervisor.
- Affords assistance to Veterans with form completion and support data collection.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Pay
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $22.96 - $28.70 hourly based on qualifications
