Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country Coach - Throws
About the Role
This position coordinates specific components of team training, including strength training, and manages training and logistics with expertise in Throwing events. The Assistant Cross Country / Track & Field Coach (Throws) will also handle assigned duties within athletics and event management as needed.
Responsibilities
- Teach and coach student-athletes while assisting the head coach in conducting the program, operating within Missouri Southern State University, MIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Assess talent and recruit prospective student-athletes for all disciplines.
- Assist the Head Coach in conducting and planning training and conditioning schedules.
- Support the Head Distance Coach with implementing practices as needed.
- Assist Head Coach and Strength Coaches in strength training and planning.
- Motivate and interact with athletes to help them perform at their best potential.
- Assist with travel management, transportation setup, and follow-through.
- Perform athletic administration and support activities, including attending department meetings.
- Collaborate with medical staff (athletic trainers, team physicians, and strength and conditioning coaches) to ensure the physical and mental well-being of student-athletes.
- Manage meet logistics for both Cross Country and Track & Field events.
- Plan and supervise daily practices, teaching track and field fundamentals and strategies.
- Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes.
- Meet with at-risk student-athletes to educate them about on-campus resources and coordinate with the ACTS department.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university (required).
- Master’s degree (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years’ related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university vehicles.
- USATF Level 1 certification (preferred).
