About the Role
Saint Mary’s Hall is seeking a passionate, energetic Assistant Track & Field Coach who will help build a highly competitive program for middle‑school and varsity student‑athletes while supporting the school’s mission and high academic standards. The coach will model excellence daily and teach life‑skills that benefit athletes long after they leave the program.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and administering all aspects of the Track & Field program as assigned.
- Model and maintain an exemplary student‑athlete concept and personal development that reflects favorably on the Saint Mary’s Hall community and athletics program.
- Provide coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach in all areas of the Track & Field program.
- Participate in public‑relations activities.
- Ensure the highest professional standards and adherence to SPC/ISAL/SACAL rules and regulations.
- Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters while complying with Saint Mary’s Hall and FERPA guidelines.
- Participate in annual continuing‑education programs as assigned.
- Coordinate and assist administration with home and away meet‑day activities (scheduling practices, equipment setup and breakdown, personnel, meet setup, etc.).
- Work with the Director of Communications to publicize team accomplishments and endeavors.
- Assist with special events, championships, fundraisers, camps, and clinics.
- Perform Athletic Department game‑day administration as assigned.
- Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, with level of assignment based on qualifications and need.
Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for track & field.
- Ability to attract and retain qualified athletes and facilitate timely progress toward graduation.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn, apply, and adhere to SPC/ISAL/SACAL rules and regulations.
- Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, and the public.
- Ability to work with students of all backgrounds and mentor student‑athletes.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other campus departments.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Must hold, or be able to obtain, CPR/First Aid certification before completing the hiring process (the school will cover training costs if needed).
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
- Travel to various events, including overnight trips.
- Work nights or weekends as required.
- Work primarily outdoors in a range of weather conditions.
- Frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying of materials less than 50 lb.
- Operate various types of office equipment.
- Function in a rigorous academic environment with diverse physical and intellectual challenges, deadlines, and contacts.
