Assistant Track and Field Coach

About the role

Orting Middle School, a member of the Plateau League, is committed to providing excellence in all of its extra-curricular programs. The assistant coach will support the head coach who oversees and runs the entire middle school track and field program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in coaching and developing middle school track and field athletes
• Implement track and field techniques and strategies
• Communicate positively and effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members
• Organize and manage program activities and logistics
• Motivate teenage athletes to reach their highest potential academically and athletically through sportsmanship
• Meet all W.I.A.A. requirements for Washington State Coaching Standards

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED equivalent
• At least 19 years of age
• Experience in coaching or participating in track and field (experience preferred)
• Knowledge of track and field techniques and strategies
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Successful experience working with teenage athletes
• Flexible schedule; must be available immediately after school (2:25 PM M-Th, 12:55 PM F)

Schedule

Middle School Fall Season: September 1, 2026 – October 22, 2026. Work starts immediately after school dismissal (2:25 PM Monday-Thursday, 12:55 PM Friday).

Pay

Salary follows the 2026-27 OXA Extra-Curricular Salary Schedule Appendix A.

Eligibility for benefits depends on hours worked during the last two school years (September 1 – August 31). Coaching positions may not qualify for benefits. Regular employees in coaching roles anticipated to work 630+ hours annually may receive:
