About the role

This position assists the Supervisor of Grounds with maintaining campus grounds, roadways, and parking areas to provide a safe, healthy, and attractive environment. The incumbent supports daily departmental operations, including Event Services setups, office/staff relocations, and the refuse and recycling program. The Assistant Supervisor serves in the supervisor's role during their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with departmental scheduling, supervision, motivation, and documentation of daily Grounds personnel operations.
  • Oversee landscaping operations, including establishing and maintaining flowerbeds, shrubbery, and trees (soil preparation, planting, thinning, mulching, watering, pruning, leaf removal, and weeding).
  • Schedule tree planting and removal as needed.
  • Ensure timely completion of grass mowing operations.
  • Maintain campus grounds in a neat and orderly manner by managing trash/recycling collection, monitoring bulk containers, and clearing leaves and debris from steps and sidewalks.
  • Oversee snow-removal hand crew operations, ensuring safe access to exterior walkways, ramps, and stairways.
  • Coordinate with Event Services for setup/breakdown of event spaces, including flooring, staging, furniture, seating, and decorations.
  • Move, assemble, and relocate furniture and equipment for main campus and satellite facilities in coordination with Facilities, Planning & Construction.
  • Inspect and maintain campus fire hydrants, storm drains, and stormwater management ponds to ensure compliance with governmental codes.
  • Direct routine maintenance and repairs of all Grounds equipment.
  • Operate forklifts, front-end loaders, tractors, bucket trucks, and other Grounds equipment as necessary.
  • Unload and/or relocate freight in support of various college departments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
  • Fertilizer Applicator Certification.
  • Pesticide Applicator Certification.

Pay

$22.66–$28.32 per hour, with pay dates on the 7th and 22nd of each month (or the prior Friday if these dates fall on a weekend).

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt staff position requiring 40 hours per week and a full-time in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations.
