About the Role

The Assistant Manager supports the organization and operation of retail stores, stepping in for the Store Manager as needed. Assistant Managers ensure the sales team meets efficiency and customer satisfaction goals while overseeing store replenishment, marketing execution, hiring, training, inventory management, and merchandise ordering.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience
    • Serve as a role model, ensuring customers remain the top priority.
    • Respond to customer complaints or needs promptly.
    • Achieve excellent scores on secret shopper reports.
    • Promote merchandise, demonstrate product knowledge, and assist customers with requests.
  • Revenue Generation
    • Align store strategy with corporate and district initiatives.
    • Support financial objectives, including sales goals, comp store increases, sales per square foot, expense control, units per transaction, payroll percent, and shrinkage.
    • Analyze business reports and develop strategies to maximize sales performance.
  • Operational Responsibilities
    • Prioritize workflow through planning and time management.
    • Support appropriate staffing levels based on business trends and payroll guidelines.
    • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and operations.
    • Maintain the physical appearance and cleanliness of the store.
    • Analyze problems, generate solutions, and communicate company expectations.
    • Report loss prevention occurrences to the Store Manager, District Manager, and Loss Prevention Manager.
    • Assist in auditing store processes, transactions, and paperwork for compliance.
    • Supervise and motivate staff members.
  • Visual, Brand, and Product Management
    • Support pricing strategies to achieve gross margin goals.
    • Communicate store inventory opportunities to the Store Manager.
    • Assist in planning and executing store planograms.
    • Understand and communicate the company’s brand position.
    • Lead and execute merchandise replenishment on the selling floor.
    • Monitor merchandise levels and coordinate stock balance between stores.
  • People Responsibilities
    • Ensure all customer service standards are met and modeled.
    • Adhere to Human Resources standards and general practices.
    • Support recruitment, selection, hiring, and development of diverse management talent.
    • Hold teams accountable for results and communicate opportunities.
    • Manage conflict and empower teams in decision-making.
    • Foster open dialogue and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform effective selling techniques.
  • Energetic and positive attitude.
  • 2+ years of retail management experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; outgoing, friendly, and personable.
  • Ability to stand for long periods on the sales floor.
  • Ability to move and/or lift up to 25 pounds.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
