This role is responsible for the management and supervision of all areas assigned by the Store Manager, following policies related to customers, associates, and merchandising. You will learn all phases of store operations and, in the absence of the Store Manager, lead the entire store operation to ensure Company standards and best practices are consistently met.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all Company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
  • Assist in the analysis of store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance; communicate variances to Company standards to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives and compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Accept special assignments as directed by leadership.
  • Responsible for payroll administration, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates; ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist with associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.
  • Manage and continuously monitor actual expenditures to stay within budget; control payroll hours to align with business trends.
  • Prioritize safety by practicing safe behaviors, ensuring associates understand and execute emergency operating procedures, and maintaining adherence to Company safety policies.
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings.
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect, demonstrating courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Execute customer service programs and merchandise presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times; maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the Company dress code.
  • Manage the store to ensure a clean, neat, and easy-to-shop environment; maintain high standards of housekeeping with contracted maintenance personnel and Ross associates.
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards; assign tasks and follow up per best practices.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented and organized according to Company merchandising guidelines.
  • Urgent management of merchandise processing to the sales floor within expected Company timeframes.
  • Train associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions; safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
  • Lead the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of inventory guidelines.
  • Monitor mark-out-of-stock policy to ensure proper administration; maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.
  • Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintain high-quality customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of all non-exempt associates.
