Assistant Store Manager

About the Role

Join Ross, a leading off-price retail chain with over 2,200 stores and a strong track record of success and growth. As an Assistant Store Manager, you will be responsible for the management and supervision of all areas assigned by the Store Manager, ensuring compliance with company policies regarding customers, associates, and merchandising. In the absence of the Store Manager, you will lead the entire store operation to meet company standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

• General Operating Requirements:
  • Lead all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches while working.
  • Assist in analyzing store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and overall store performance.
  • Communicate variances to company standards to the Store Manager.
  • Ensure proper scheduling of associates to meet business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Schedule and complete all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
  • Accept special assignments as directed by leadership.
  • Responsible for payroll administration, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
• Organizational Development:
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and developing non-exempt associates.
  • Ensure compliance with Ross personnel policies and procedures.
  • Assist with associate relations issues by communicating incidents to the Store Manager or District Manager.
• Expense Control:
  • Assist in managing and continuously monitoring actual expenditures to stay within budget.
  • Control payroll hours to plan, adjusting to current business trends.
• Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment:
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
  • Ensure all associates understand and can execute emergency operating procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to company safety policies to ensure the safety of associates and customers.
  • Assist in facilitating monthly safety meetings.
• Customer Service:
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
  • Execute customer service programs and merchandise presentation programs through associate training and supervision.
  • Supervise and coach retail associates in providing efficient and friendly service at registers, customer service desk, fitting rooms, and sales floor.
• Personal and Store Brand:
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain and model a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
  • Reinforce the company dress code at all times.
  • Manage the store to ensure a clean, neat, and easy-to-shop environment.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping with the help of contracted maintenance personnel and Ross associates.
  • Ensure scheduling and completion of all associate cleaning tasks throughout the store, including restrooms.
• Merchandise Processing and In-Store Marketing:
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and follow-up.
  • Ensure merchandise is presented and organized according to company merchandising guidelines.
  • Urgent management of merchandise processing to the sales floor within expected company timeframes.
• Loss Prevention:
  • Assist with training associates on loss prevention awareness and store shortage goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers as a representative of Ross leadership.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintaining a large customer service presence on the sales floor and heightened loss prevention awareness.
  • Assist in leading the annual inventory process, including preparation and execution of inventory guidelines.
  • Monitor mark-out-of-stock policy to ensure proper administration.
  • Ensure the Public View Monitor (PVM) system is maintained properly.

Requirements

• Two or more years of Store or Assistant Store Manager experience in a retail environment.
• Ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively with store associates at all levels.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction, and follow through to completion.
• Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
• Maintain high-quality customer service.
• Fluency in English.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
• Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
• Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
• Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
• Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of all non-exempt associates.
