Assistant Store Manager

About the role
The Assistant Store Manager collaborates with the Store Manager and leadership team to develop, document, and implement practices, policies, and strategies that support a performance and results-driven culture. This role oversees daily dispensary operations, handles patient/customer needs, and ensures compliance with state and local regulations. The Assistant Store Manager also supports hiring, training, and developing a team of motivated individuals passionate about cannabis.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform all functions associated with management and oversight of a retail medical marijuana dispensary.
- Administer routine inspections to maintain accurate inventory of all cannabis products.
- Manage and supervise dispensary staff, including hiring, discipline, termination, or advancement decisions.
- Ensure all procedures are updated to provide best practices for staff and patients.
- Train dispensary staff on company standard operating procedures, product knowledge, and best practices.
- Ensure key performance indicators are captured and reported.
- Manage daily financial reporting requirements and oversee cash handling procedures.
- Develop and maintain staff schedules.
- Communicate patient incidents or complaints to the Store Manager, Regional Dispensary Manager, or Compliance team.
- Protect patient rights by overseeing HIPAA education and ensuring confidentiality of protected health and financial information.
- Oversee patient education and counseling programs, including reviewing and revising disseminated information.
- Assist in implementing the strategic plan for dispensary operations and expansion.
- Maintain awareness of competitive landscape, opportunities for improvement, and industry developments.
- Ensure dispensary compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations, and directives.
- Strive for patient satisfaction and maintain a patient-friendly environment.
- Ensure 100% product traceability from reception to sale.
- Notify the Compliance team and Head of Retail of high-risk customer complaints.
- Maintain store appearance, including cleanliness, safety, and guest readiness.
Requirements
- Must meet minimum age requirements as determined by local, state, and federal regulations.
- Must complete a background check as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Physical aptitude and health necessary to perform manual labor tasks, including sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and performing repetitive motions.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- 1-3 years in retail, customer care, or equivalent leadership role.

Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in a dispensary setting, which may be odorous, loud, and subject to fluctuating temperatures.
- Frequent contact with staff, vendors, customers, law enforcement, and state inspectors.
- Frequent communication with customers regarding medical conditions and product offerings.
- Frequent use of computer/POS systems and office equipment.
- Constant movement and transport of products/totes up to 30 lbs. throughout the dispensary.
- Ability to twist, turn, bend, stand, and walk as required for dispensary operations.
