Responsibilities
- Aid in achieving a positive customer shopping experience and fostering associate interest in customer service.
- Support store manager in planning, implementing, and executing merchandising and operating initiatives.
- Collaborate with department heads and store associates to identify store opportunities, develop solutions, and implement action plans.
- Model and demand high levels of customer service and resolve associate and customer issues.
- Oversee store operations in the absence of the store manager, ensuring achievement of weekly, period, and annual sales, wage, and profit budgets, as well as other targeted goals.
- Drive sales by collaborating with department managers to maximize sales and profits, minimize shrink, and improve each store department's contribution.
- Participate in regular store-level financial performance discussions with associates regarding budget development (sales, shrink, labor expenses, other expenses) and other targeted goals (safety).
- Analyze and respond to competitive market dynamics within the district or division.
- Demonstrate inclusive leadership and encourage inclusive behavior among associates.
- Coordinate with field staff to ensure store departments achieve sales and profit goals and implement division merchandising plans.
- Promote and support strong relationships with local community organizations and union representatives/business agents if applicable.
- Communicate necessary information to associates to enable effective duty performance.
- Assist store manager in staffing, reducing turnover, and increasing retention.
- Provide timely individual and departmental performance feedback to department heads and associates.
- Manage labor management and supply costs on a daily basis to meet customer service and financial targets.
- Ensure store compliance and associate knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and enterprise policies.
- Supervise and coach direct reports on their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience as a department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
- Store manager, district manager, or direct manager approval
- Retail management experience and knowledge of all aspects of store operations
- Staff supervisory experience
