Responsibilities

  • Afford assistance in achieving a positive customer shopping experience and fostering an interest in customer service among store associates to uphold Kroger's top-tier reputation.
  • Collaborate with the store manager to plan, implement, and execute merchandising and operating initiatives.
  • Develop action plans and communications for associates based on Associate Insight survey results.
  • Partner with department heads and store associates to identify store opportunities, devise timely solutions, and create action plans to ensure plan implementation.
  • Drive sales by coordinating with department managers to optimize sales and profits, minimize shrinkage, and enhance each store department's contribution.
  • Participate in regular store-level financial performance discussions with associates, focusing on developing budgets (such as sales, shrink, labor expenses, other expenses) and other targeted goals (such as safety).
  • Analyze and respond to the competitive landscape within the district or division.
  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership and expect inclusive behavior from associates.
  • Utilize coordinators and other field staff to ensure that store departments achieve sales and profit goals and implement division merchandising plans.
  • Promote and support strong relationships with local community organizations in the store's surrounding area.
  • Assist in building proactive and productive relationships with union representatives/business agents if the store is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Communicate necessary information to associates to enable them to effectively carry out their duties.
  • Serve as a liaison between the store and district managers and coordinators on the effectiveness of division merchandising and operational plans.
  • Assist the store manager in staffing, reducing turnover, and increasing retention.
  • Provide timely individual and departmental performance feedback to department heads and associates.
  • Manage labor management and supply costs on a daily basis to meet customer service and financial targets.
  • Ensure store compliance and associate knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and enterprise policies.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports on the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of experience as a department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager, district manager, or direct manager approval
  • Retail management experience and knowledge of all aspects of store operations
  • Staff supervisory experience
