Responsibilities
- Aid in achieving a positive customer shopping experience and fostering an interest in customer service among store associates.
- Support the store manager in planning, implementing, and executing merchandising and operating initiatives.
- Collaborate with department heads and store associates to identify store opportunities, develop solutions, and implement action plans.
- Model and demand a high standard of customer service, addressing and resolving associate and customer issues.
- Oversee store operations during the store manager's absence, ensuring that weekly, period, and annual sales, wage, and profit budgets are achieved or exceeded.
- Drive sales by collaborating with department managers to optimize sales and profits, minimize shrinkage, and enhance each store department's contribution.
- Participate in regular store-level financial performance discussions with associates, focusing on developing budgets and other targeted goals such as safety.
- Analyze and respond to competitive market dynamics within the district or division.
- Demonstrate inclusive leadership and encourage inclusive behavior among associates.
- Coordinate with coordinators and other field staff to ensure store departments meet sales and profit goals and execute division merchandising plans.
- Promote and support strong relationships with local community organizations and maintain productive relationships with union representatives/business agents if applicable.
- Communicate necessary information to associates to assist them in performing their duties effectively.
- Assist store managers in staffing, managing labor costs, and reducing turnover while increasing retention.
- Provide timely individual and departmental performance feedback to direct reports and complete performance reviews.
- Ensure store compliance and associate knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws and enterprise policies.
- Supervise and coach direct reports, providing guidance on their duties and completing performance reviews.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- One year of experience as a department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
- Store manager, district manager, or direct manager approval
- Retail management experience and knowledge of all aspects of store operations
- Staff supervisory experience
