Responsibilities

  • Afford store manager & associates support in achieving a positive customer shopping experience & encourage associate enthusiasm for customer service/relations to maintain Kroger’s top-tier reputation.
  • Collaborate with store manager to implement & execute merchandising/operational strategies.
  • Work with department heads & store associates to identify store opportunities, develop actionable plans, & oversee their execution.
  • Support store manager in managing store operations during absence.
  • Achieve/exceed weekly, period, & annual sales, wage budgets & profit budgets, as well as other targeted goals (e.g., safety, shrink).
  • Drive sales by collaborating with department managers to optimize sales & profits, minimize shrinkage, & enhance each store department’s contribution.
  • Conduct regular store-level financial performance discussions with associates regarding budgets (e.g., sales, shrink, labor expenses, other expenses) & other goals (e.g., safety).
  • Analyze & respond to competitive market conditions within the district/division.
  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership; expect inclusive behavior from associates.
  • Coordinate with coordinators/field staff to ensure store departments achieve sales/profit goals & implement division merchandising plans.
  • Promote & support strong relationships with local community organizations in the store’s surrounding area.
  • Assist in building relationships with union representatives/business agents if applicable.
  • Communicate necessary information to associates to enable them to perform their duties effectively.
  • Serve as a liaison between store/district managers & coordinators on the effectiveness of division merchandising/operational plans/programs.
  • Assist store manager in staffing, reducing turnover & increasing retention.
  • Provide timely individual/departmental performance feedback to department heads & associates.
  • Manage labor costs & supply costs on a daily basis to meet customer service/financial targets.
  • Ensure store compliance & associate knowledge of federal, state, & local laws/enterprise policies.
  • Supervise & coach direct reports on their duties; complete performance reviews & provide feedback to direct reports.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED
  • At least 1 year of experience as department manager, service manager, or equivalent experience
  • Store manager/district manager or direct manager approval
  • Desired: Retail management experience & knowledge of all aspects of store operations, staff supervisory experience
