Job Description
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Resident Engineer to join our distinguished team for a project located in Alexandria, VA.
Plant Upgrade Description
- Solids Upgrade Program: Replacements to the thickening and dewatering equipment, gravity thickeners, and digestor heat exchangers and mixers. Decommissioning of a pasteurization system and installation of a new solids dryer facility. Potential pilot of future technologies like pyrolysis with operational support.
- Preliminary and Primary Systems Upgrade Project: Improvements in Building A and B, including upgrades to coarse and fine screens, pump upgrades, conveyance improvements, and separator upgrades. Rehabilitation of Primary Settling Tanks (PSTs).
- Centrate Pretreatment Project: Upgrade of the CPT system to a modernized continuous flow DEMON system, including new flow-through baffles, parabolic screens, submersible pumps, wedge wire screens, instrumentation, and associated piping and cleaning.
Job Responsibilities
- Site Supervision & Oversight: Provide daily on-site construction supervision and mentoring of inspection team’s oversight of primary, solids, and tertiary systems rehabilitation and upgrades, including mechanical, piping, electrical, structural, and pumping systems.
- Contract Administration: Review, track, and process submittals, Shop Drawings, Request for Information (RFIs), and Contractor Payment Applications.
- Documentation & Reporting: Review inspector’s daily reports, inspection logs, and photographic records of construction progress for quality and accuracy.
- Compliance & Inspection: Monitor contractor activities for compliance with contract plans, specifications, building codes, and environmental regulations.
- Change Management: Assist in evaluating and negotiating change orders, field modifications, and potential claims.
- Startup & Commissioning: Participate in the testing, startup, and commissioning of process equipment and systems to ensure functional performance.
- Safety Coordination: Enforce site safety regulations and participate in safety meetings to maintain a safe work environment.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with plant operations staff to minimize service disruptions during construction.
Required Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
- Minimum of 5+ years of construction management or construction field engineer experience specifically related to wastewater, water, or industrial process projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, process mechanical piping, and construction specifications.
- Experience with construction management software (e-Builder, Procore, Primavera P6) and MS Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and technical writing skills to produce reports and lead meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
Other Requirements
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Must be able to traverse uneven terrain on active construction sites, climb ladders (up to 24 feet), and access confined spaces.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work of hours on occasion.
Compensation
The compensation range for this position is between $110,000 to $135,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
