Assistant Resident Engineer
About the role
This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Assistant Resident Engineer for our Antioch, California office. Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable of various client construction specifications and contract management.
- Supervise, develop and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project.
- Supervise and conduct the inspection and review of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications.
- Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
- Verify and review project documentation for acceptance including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost reduction proposals, traffic control modifications, and others.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors.
- Manage the construction management team, including sub-consultants.
- Review and make recommendations for contractors' project schedules and non-conforming work.
- Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
- Meeting with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field experience or equivalent.
- A minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
- A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. Caltrans).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Valid drivers’ license.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans.
- Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields.
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
- Familiarity with e-Builder, MS Office , MS Project and other PC software used on design and construction projects.
- Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.

Pay
Expected Salary (all locations): $118,000 - $175,230
