Assistant Resident Engineer

Responsibilities

• Aid the Resident Engineer in managing and coordinating daily construction inspection activities.
• Supervise field inspection personnel and coordinate inspection coverage.
• Maintain oversight of contractor operations and construction progress.
• Review and approve Daily Work Reports and quantity documentation prepared by inspectors.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing progress payment estimates and change orders.
• Assist in reviewing contractor submittals, Request for Information (RFIs), and shop drawings.
• Coordinate traffic operations and construction staging.
• Maintain compliance with safety requirements, environmental permits, and erosion and sediment control plans.
• Act as a representative for the Resident Engineer when necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum 8–12 years of experience in transportation construction inspection or construction management.
• Possession of Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure.
• NICET Level III or IV certification.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification.
• Experience with nuclear density gauge testing operations.
• OSHA 30 certification.

Skills

Strong knowledge of construction management and inspection practices, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are required. Proficiency in traffic management and environmental compliance is also beneficial.
