Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team

The Compass Urgent Accommodation Voucher (CUAV) program provides temporary emergency hotel rooms for families and pregnant people in crisis. In addition to a hotel room, the program helps families connect with services and a path to stable housing.

Schedule

Sunday - Thursday, 1-9 pm

Compensation

$70,000 - $80,000 annually

Location

1254 Market St., San Francisco and at the hotel sites. Fully in-person.

Role Description

The Assistant Program Director works with the Program Director to oversee the day-to-day services of the CUAV program and respond to emergency situations when they arise. This includes supervision of CUAV staff, administrative and program design and implementation, as well as providing direct support to clients. The Assistant Director will work across multiple sites to support the needs of clients and staff.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support case managers and other staff, including: hiring, training, scheduling, stepping in with tough client situations or lapses in coverage, supporting professional development, and evaluating performance.
  • Implement program policies equitably; de escalate and appropriately follow-up with clients when needed.
  • Build and cultivate collaborative community partnerships, including with funders.
  • Strengthen partnership and effective communication with partnership hotels and staff; respectfully advocate on behalf of clients and staff when necessary.
  • Aid in coordinating intakes, transfers, and discharges.
  • Represent the CUAV program in both internal and external meetings; offer shelter perspective on behalf of shelter clients and shelter staff.
  • Manage the CUAV program, in partnership with the Day Shift Assistant Program Director, in the absence of the Program Director.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in social work or a related field required
  • Deep understanding of issues facing homeless and low-income families.
  • Experience with deescalation and working with people in crisis.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Outstanding work habits: organized, reliable, team-oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as to inspire and lead a committed team
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and Zoom. Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.
  • Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred
  • Spanish is not required for the role, but extremely helpful. Candidates who speak fluent Spanish are especially encouraged to apply.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience. Exempt (salaried) role.
  • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave.
  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.
  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-6.
