About the role

Nassau BOCES Department of Curriculum & Instruction is seeking an Assistant Program Coordinator, with a focus on Social Studies, to support the Center for Professional Development.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting K–12 Social Studies initiatives aligned with the New York State (NYS) Social Studies Framework, Social Studies Practices, Civic Readiness, and NY Inspires Portrait of a Graduate
  • Providing leadership and support to component districts in Social Studies curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning
  • Designing and facilitating professional development on inquiry-based learning, disciplinary literacy, curriculum implementation, and Social Studies best practices
  • Coordinating implementation, onboarding, and ongoing support for the Nassau BOCES Regional Social Studies Curriculum, including curriculum development and expansion with Grade 6 in 2027-2028 and potential expansion into Grades 7-8
  • Leading curriculum writing projects, ensuring standards alignment, instructional quality, and effective project management
  • Analyzing district feedback, pilot data, and program outcomes to drive continuous improvement of curriculum and regional programming
  • Fostering collaboration among districts, educators, consultants, and Nassau BOCES departments to strengthen Social Studies initiatives and partnerships
  • Coordinating regional professional learning opportunities, collegial networks, and cross-department initiatives, including Outdoor and Environmental Education and Instructional Software Services
  • Working with Instructional Software Services to support curriculum access, district subscriptions, payment logistics, renewals, and related operational processes
  • Overseeing regional Social Studies collegial circles, network meetings, consultant-led workshops, speaker events, and other professional learning opportunities

Requirements

  • New York State Education Department (NYSED) Certification: School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)
  • Three (3) or more years of teaching experience (with NYSED Certification: Social Studies 7-12 preferred)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365, including the ability to organize digital curriculum resources, manage shared materials, and communicate effectively with districts
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, meetings, curriculum revisions, and stakeholder groups simultaneously
  • Ability to travel within Nassau County
