About the role
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professorships, to start August 2023, in experimental condensed matter physics and/or materials-based machine learning, with a focus on materials spectroscopy and imaging.
Responsibilities
- Conduct cutting-edge research in experimental condensed matter physics and/or materials-based machine learning, focusing on materials spectroscopy and imaging.
- Develop and utilize unique characterization techniques that complement existing expertise.
- Leverage national laboratory research facilities to enhance research capabilities.
Requirements
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience with optical/near-field/Raman, ARPES, synchrotron x-ray, neutron, STEM, and/or Auger/CL/PL spectroscopies.
- Interest in machine learning and high throughput materials discovery and property prediction.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to secure external funding.
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
Skills
- Expertise in experimental condensed matter physics and/or materials-based machine learning.
- Knowledge of optical/near-field/Raman, ARPES, synchrotron x-ray, neutron, STEM, and/or Auger/CL/PL spectroscopies.
- Experience with machine learning and high throughput materials discovery and property prediction.
- Ability to work with national laboratory research facilities.
