About the role

The Management Department at the Fowler College of Business (FCB) at San Diego State University (SDSU) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in Strategic Management, starting Fall 2027. Since SDSU values high-quality scholarship and teaching, the successful candidate must exhibit competence/potential in two areas. The first entails conducting high-quality scholarship in Strategic Management, resulting in top-tier journal publications and academic thought leadership. The second involves effectively teaching the undergraduate capstone course in Strategic Management. Teaching in the core MBA Strategy course may also be expected as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality scholarship in Strategic Management, resulting in top-tier journal publications and academic thought leadership.
  • Teach the undergraduate capstone course in Strategic Management.
  • Teach the core MBA Strategy course as needed.
  • Engage in campus and professional service activities.

Requirements

  • A record of original research / scholarly / creative accomplishments and demonstrated capacity to a) develop a vigorous and independent program of research / scholarship / creative activity; b) teach graduate and undergraduate courses; and c) engage in both campus and professional service activities.
  • Demonstration of past accomplishments and / or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Strategic Management or in a closely related field (e.g., economics, sociology, organizational behavior, international business) with all degree requirements met.
  • Preferred qualifications include demonstrated ability or potential to publish high-quality strategic management research in top-tier journals, record of publications, presentations, and/or funding, evidence of (or potential for) research in areas that overlap with department faculty interests, and university-level teaching experience.

Pay

The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $140,000 - $147,000 (academic year full-time monthly). Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances.
