Assistant Professor of Research Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery
About the Role
We are seeking a research faculty member with a strong program in auditory and/or vestibular research. The ideal candidate will study auditory physiology, with an emphasis on cochlear mechanics, auditory nerve, and/or auditory brainstem processing. The primary criterion for appointment in this non-tenure-track position is a demonstrated commitment to research.
Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A PhD or MD degree is required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct impactful research in auditory and/or vestibular physiology, particularly cochlear mechanics, auditory nerve, or auditory brainstem processing.
- Publish research findings and secure funding to support a robust research program.
- Actively engage as a collaborative member of the department, working productively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and interests, including graduate students, post-docs, residents, other research PIs, and clinicians.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated track record of impactful research, as evidenced by publications and funding history.
- Commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive research environment.
- Ability to mentor and interact with trainees, including graduate students, post-docs, and medical students/residents.

Opportunities for collaboration with other USC faculty abound, including those in the adjacent Broad CIRM Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Faculty in the department are affiliated with and can recruit trainees from outstanding training programs, such as:
- USC Programs in Biomedical and Biochemical Sciences (PIBBS).
- NIH T32-funded training programs, including the Neurosciences Graduate Program (NGP), the Hearing and Communication Neuroscience Program (HCN), and the Otolaryngology Clinician-Scientist Training Program (CSTP).
These programs support graduate students, post-docs, and medical students/residents with a strong interest in research.
Pay
The annual base salary range for this position is $100,000–$133,673. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
