Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior
About the Role
The Management Department at the Fowler College of Business (FCB) at San Diego State University (SDSU) seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in Organizational Behavior starting in Fall 2027. The successful candidate must demonstrate competence and potential in two key areas:
- Conducting high-quality scholarship in Organizational Behavior, resulting in top-tier journal publications and academic thought leadership.
- Effectively teaching the undergraduate core course in Organizational Behavior, with potential expectations to teach the core MBA Organizational Behavior course as needed.
Given SDSU’s commitment to a diverse student body, including traditional and non-traditional students, some evening teaching may be required. Filling this position is contingent upon state funding.
About the Department and University
The Fowler College of Business (FCB) at SDSU is among the nation’s oldest and largest AACSB-accredited business schools. The college, in collaboration with the College of Arts & Letters, offers SDSU’s International Business (IB) program, consistently ranked among the top programs nationally (17th in 2024 by U.S. News & World Report). FCB also houses the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business, a National Center of Excellence designated by the U.S. Department of Education since 1989.
The Management Department includes 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty members and several full-time and part-time lecturers. Research support includes funding for approved projects, graduate student assistants, and budgets for conference travel and other research-related expenses. Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a vigorous, independent program of research, scholarship, or creative activity in Organizational Behavior.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, including the core Organizational Behavior course for undergraduates and potentially the MBA core course.
- Engage in campus and professional service activities.
- Contribute to SDSU’s commitment to inclusive excellence through research, teaching, or service aligned with the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria.
Requirements
By Date of Application
- A record of original research, scholarly, or creative accomplishments.
- Demonstrated capacity to:
- Develop a vigorous and independent program of research, scholarship, or creative activity.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses.
- Engage in campus and professional service.
- Demonstration of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria.
By Date of Hire (August 2027)
- Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior or a closely related field (e.g., industrial-organizational psychology, international business, human resources), with all degree requirements completed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability or potential to publish high-quality organizational behavior research in top-tier journals.
- Record of publications, presentations, and/or funding.
- Evidence of (or potential for) research in areas overlapping with department faculty interests.
- University-level teaching experience.
Pay
The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is $140,000 - $147,000 for an academic year (full-time monthly). Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience, with potential for higher offers in limited circumstances.
