Assistant Professor of Instruction, Department of Psychology, College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP)
About the role
The Department of Psychology invites applications for a Full-Time Assistant Professor of Instruction Position. This is a non-tenure track or Fixed-Term Track (FTT) position focused primarily on instruction with a small service component. The workload will be either four courses per semester (80% teaching, 20% service) or a four-five or five-four teaching load (90% teaching, 10% service). The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction to undergraduate students, including course preparation, classroom instruction, assessment of student learning, and timely communication with students. While primarily responsible for face-to-face teaching, the candidate should have experience teaching across multiple modalities. Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in psychology, potentially including Behavior Analysis and Learning, Experimental Psychology, Experimental Lab, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Psychopathology, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Physiological Psychology, Sensation and Perception, and/or Statistics for Psychology.
- Prepare and deliver course content, assess student learning, and maintain timely communication with students.
- Contribute to the broader mission of the department through service activities.
- Engage in evidence-based and/or active learning teaching methods across online and/or in-person settings.
- Participate in curriculum and competency development, advising, and recruitment/retention efforts related to undergraduate students.
- Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely-related discipline.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate-level courses, supported by teaching evaluations, syllabi samples, or other relevant documentation.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of teaching experience as an instructor of record (not as a graduate teaching assistant).
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in one or more of the specified psychology courses.
- Experience using evidence-based and/or active learning teaching methods across online and/or in-person settings.
- Engagement in service related to undergraduate students, including curriculum development, advising, and recruitment/retention.
- Commitment to student success and retention.
- Effective collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
