Assistant Teaching Professor, Health Psychology

Montclair State University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Health Psychology, beginning August 27, 2027.

About the role

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Health Psychology and related areas, contribute to the development, assessment, and improvement of Health Psychology curricula and programs, and collaborate with faculty on instructional initiatives, experiential learning, and community partnerships. The department seeks a colleague who demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching, mentorship, and advising.

This is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment with eligibility for reappointment based on established procedures. The standard teaching load is 12 teaching credit hours per semester, with opportunities for reassigned time for additional responsibilities such as program administration.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Health Psychology and related areas.
• Develop, assess, and improve Health Psychology curricula and programs.
• Collaborate on innovative instructional initiatives, experiential learning, and community partnerships.
• Mentor and advise students.
• Contribute to departmental, college, and university service, including shared governance and program vitality.
• Center student success and measurable learning outcomes through inclusive pedagogies and course design.

Requirements

• Earned PhD in Psychology.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching all students.
• Commitment to service.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Health Psychology or a closely related subfield.
• Expertise in contemporary challenges in health and well-being, such as behavioral health, chronic disease management, health equity, prevention science, aging, stress and resilience, digital health, or social determinants of health.
• Experience complementing existing departmental strengths in clinical psychology and industrial/organizational psychology.

About the Department

The Department of Psychology is organized into three broad categories: clinical, industrial/organizational (I/O), and psychological science. It serves a large and diverse student body and comprises 35 full-time faculty, several emeriti, and support staff. The department hosts 20 active research labs, over $3.5 million in extramural funding, and PhD programs in clinical and I/O psychology, along with popular MA and certification programs.

Faculty research interests include neuroscience, neurodegenerative diseases, cognitive processes, internalizing psychological disorders, forensic psychology, language and lifespan development, motivation, pedagogy, leadership, organizational behavior, employee well-being, social attitudes, discrimination, diversity science, and social justice.

Pay

Annual salary range: $89,209.75–$95,821.86.
