About the role
The Department of Sociology at Texas State University (San Marcos, TX) invites applications for a full-time lecturer position beginning fall 2027. The university has a teaching track that includes promotion; this hire would be at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction. Although the area of specialization is open, the main teaching need to be fulfilled is the ability to teach Introduction to Sociology. The standard teaching load is 4 courses per semester (4-4), typically consisting of 3–4 sections of Introduction to Sociology per term, with occasional opportunities to teach upper-level electives in the candidate’s area of specialization.
Responsibilities
The main responsibility is to teach Introduction to Sociology, sections of which are roughly 100 students in size and generally taught face-to-face. Requirements
- A Ph.D. in sociology, completed by August 1, 2027.
- A record of, or demonstrated potential for, successful teaching in Introduction to Sociology is required.
- In the Department of Sociology, sections of Introduction to Sociology are roughly 100 students in size and generally taught face-to-face; therefore, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an ability to teach in such circumstances.
