Assistant Professor of German, Department of German & Russian (R0008836)

The Department of German and Russian at WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of German, effective July 1, 2027.

About the Role

This individual will be expected to teach courses in first- and second-year German language, as well as literature and culture classes in German and English at the undergraduate level, engage in scholarly activities, participate in departmental, College, and University service, and contribute to the University’s community outreach efforts.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in German Language and Literature
• Initiate and sustain original research and scholarship in 21st-century literary and cultural production in areas such as migration and transnationalism, environmental humanities, media studies, Jewish studies, or gender and sexuality studies
• Contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth
• Provide evidence of teaching excellence
• Experience with study abroad programs is particularly welcome

Requirements

• An earned Ph.D. in German Literature or a related field is required
• Native or near-native fluency in German is required
• ABD candidates are invited to apply

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 per year.

Schedule

The position is scheduled for a full-time, nine-month appointment.
