California State University, Fullerton’s Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Asian American Literature to begin Fall 2027. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach a wide range of courses in the English major at the upper-division and graduate (M.A.) levels, as well as lower-division, introductory, and general education courses. Teaching assignments may include Asian American Literature, Asian Literature, survey courses in American or Comparative Literature, children’s literature, or creative writing. Faculty typically teach 3–4 classes per semester, with a reduced load for the first two years. The appointee will maintain an active research program, advise students, serve on committees, and contribute to departmental and university life.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Asian American Literature, with potential assignments in children’s literature or creative writing.
  • Develop and teach survey courses in American or Comparative Literature, contemporary literatures, and/or feminist/women’s literature.
  • Maintain an active research agenda with peer-reviewed publications.
  • Advise students and participate in departmental, college, and university service.
  • Contribute to the department’s mission of fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field with an emphasis in Asian American Literature (required by August 2027). ABD candidates must show evidence of degree completion prior to appointment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of high-quality teaching and an active research program with clear potential for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to balance teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Collegial participation in departmental, campus, and disciplinary communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching children’s literature or creative writing.
  • Tertiary expertise in contemporary literature, queer literatures, or feminist/women’s literatures.
  • Comparative or transnational approaches to Asian American Literature.

Pay

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,121 to $7,263 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional support may include summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load for the first two years.
