About the role
The Department of Asian American Studies (ASAM) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or advanced Assistant Professor in Asian American Studies with an appointment to begin Fall 2026.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach introductory and core courses in Asian American studies and ethnic studies.
- Develop courses in their area(s) of specialization.
- Contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department.
- Serve on committees.
- Engage in community work.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in ethnic studies or related field, with an emphasis in Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific studies, by the time of appointment.
- Ability to teach a wide range of Asian American studies and ethnic studies courses.
- Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching.
- Strong record of scholarly or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment.
- Demonstrated commitment to department/university, professional, and community service.
- Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues.
- Experience balancing excellent teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups.

- Emphases in history; cultural studies (literature, digital/media studies, music); colonialism, empire, and war; queer of color theories; women of color feminist theories; diaspora; and/or community and social movements.
- Interdisciplinary, intersectional and/or comparative approaches.
- Evidence of effective use of a variety of instructional methods and learning modalities.
- Evidence of successful scholarly/creative works and publications.
- Evidence of engagement with student co-curricular activities and Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific communities.

Pay
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,465 to $7,608 per month. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
