Assistant Professor of English
Seaver College, Pepperdine University’s residential liberal arts college, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English specializing in Early American Literature to begin in August 2027. Candidates with additional expertise in composition, rhetoric, or grammar are strongly preferred.
About the Role
The successful candidate will join the Humanities and Teacher Education Division, contributing to undergraduate teaching, research, and the university’s Christian mission. This position requires a demonstrated ability and preference for undergraduate teaching, an openness to mentoring students in research, an active research agenda, and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Teach upper- and lower-division literature and writing courses in both the major and general education curriculum.
- Instruct survey classes in American literature that extend beyond the candidate’s primary area of research.
- Conduct research with or mentor undergraduate students.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.
- Uphold and integrate the university’s Christian mission in teaching and professional activities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in English or a related field, completed by July 1, 2027.
- Demonstrated ability and preference for undergraduate teaching.
- Active research agenda in Early American Literature.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to Pepperdine University’s Christian mission and values.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include expertise in composition, rhetoric, or grammar, as well as experience integrating faith and learning in the classroom.
Pay
Salary for this appointment ranges from $91,527 to $97,701 per year, based on qualifications, experience, and market conditions.
