Assistant Professor of English

About the Role

The Department of English and Communication at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) invites applications for a 10-month, tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of English, with appointment beginning January 1, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginning composition courses and upper-division courses such as technical writing, editing, rhetoric, introduction to broadcasting, introduction to mass media, news writing and reporting, advanced broadcasting, digital media creation and management, mass media industries, or writing for contemporary media.
• Teach traditional in-class/on-ground courses, as well as hybrid or online offerings.
• May require service to ABAC's dual enrollment population at off-campus sites, involving travel.
• Be evaluated on efforts in teaching, student success, scholarship and professional growth, and professional service.

Qualifications

• Hold a doctoral degree in English or other appropriate discipline.
• Possess expertise and necessary credentials to teach courses in composition and journalism.
• Be adept at the use of various instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Qualified and interested in serving as faculty advisor for The Stallion newspaper and/or Stallion TV.
• Experience with academic assessment.

About the Department & Institution

ABAC is a residential state college located in Tifton, Georgia, named one of the best 100 small towns in America. The college offers associate and baccalaureate degrees and has an approximate enrollment of ~4000. The campus features a new state-of-the-art media suite with broadcasting, audio, and print facilities.

The Department of English and Communication offers a Writing and Communication B.S. degree, a Certificate in Digital Media and Professional Communication, and multiple courses in support of ABAC's IMPACTS Core Curriculum. The Department also supports student media opportunities, including The Stallion newspaper, Stallion TV, radio station WPLH, literary magazines Pegasus and Adroit, and Horseman Press, the only student-staffed teaching press of its kind in Georgia.
