About the role

The Literature in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Approach technological questions through interdisciplinary and critical thinking that is informed by humanities-based approaches.
  • Teach and develop courses for the MA Program in Literature, Culture, and Technology, as well as undergraduate courses.
  • Serve as a bridge between the literature department, computer and data science, the game design lab, or other departments working on questions of artificial intelligence, new media, and/or new technologies.
  • Teach two courses per semester.
  • Contribute to research, mentorship, and service.

Requirements

  • A PhD or anticipated PhD completion by August 2025 in any humanities discipline or allied field, such as information studies, media studies, communications, or science and technology studies.
  • Experience with high-quality scholarship in areas that offer new perspectives in understanding the complex interactions of technology, culture, and textual production.
  • Engagement in interdisciplinary and critical thinking informed by humanities-based approaches.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in scholarly research.
  • Enthusiasm and effectiveness as an educator.

Qualifications
