About the role

The successful candidate will teach across the film curriculum, with a special focus on screenwriting and fiction film production. They will hold an MFA in film production or a closely related filmmaking discipline by the start date and maintain an active and ongoing creative practice.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate-level courses in screenwriting and film production
  • Develop and deliver innovative, engaging, and effective online and in-person instruction
  • Maintain an active and ongoing program of creative practice in the discipline
  • Contribute to the department's research and creative output
  • Participate in departmental and university committees
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and attend conferences

Requirements

  • A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in film production or a closely related filmmaking discipline by the start date
  • An established or emerging record of creative scholarship peer-reviewed through festivals and other juried or curated forums
  • Strengths in fiction filmmaking, including screenwriting, and a craft specialization in one or more of the following: sound design, producing, or post-production
  • Experience working in contemporary areas of practice such as writing for episodic and streaming platforms, independent and micro-budget feature development, and the craft implications of generative AI and virtual production

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in film production or a closely related field preferred
  • At least three years of teaching experience at the college level
  • Proven ability to mentor students and direct capstone and thesis projects
  • Experience with online instructional technology and teaching in both online and residential formats

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students
  • Proficiency in using educational technology tools

Pay

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 annually, posted in good faith based on the budgeted amount available for the position.

Schedule

The appointment will begin July 1, 2027.
