About the role

The goal of the Construction Management (CM) program is to prepare baccalaureate degree graduates who have the necessary skills to plan, organize, staff, lead and exercise control in the directing and coordinating of resources to achieve construction project objectives. Accordingly, the program's objective is to produce graduates who have the technical grounding in construction processes for civil works, commercial/residential building works, and managerial skills to plan and direct projects.

Responsibilities

  • Teach baccalaureate courses (including laboratory courses) primarily in the Construction Management program in accordance with program expectations.
  • Prepare and present course materials.
  • Audience and evaluate student performance.
  • Provide academic support to students outside the classroom.
  • Select and order textbooks.
  • Prepare proposals for new courses.
  • Recommend program modifications.
  • Maintain and adjust the curriculum according to institutional procedures.
  • Engage in scholarly and creative activities that result in peer-reviewed products such as project reports, external and internal grant proposals, conference papers, seminar presentations, books, or manuals.
  • Participate in service activities to the department, college, institution, and community by participating in such activities as student advising, student recruiting, serving on committees and task groups that support the shared governance of the program, department, college or institution.
  • Provide outreach to the community and profession.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Construction Management or a closely related occupation such as Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
  • B.S. in any of the following: Construction Management, Architecture, Construction or Civil Engineering Technology, Civil or Construction Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of construction processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to use the computer as an educational and management tool.
  • Ph.D. degree with background in construction management, construction engineering or civil engineering.
  • Previous post-secondary teaching experience in closely related field.
  • Experience as a faculty member in a construction management or construction-related area.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Professional Constructor (CPC), or OSHA, LEED-AP.
  • Experience at the management level such as project manager, lead estimator, site supervisor, or higher on significant projects.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
