About the role

The Construction Management (CM) Department in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to start in the 2026-27 academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and develop courses in the construction management program
  • Advise students to help them attain academic and professional success
  • Work with and mentor student organizations and competition teams
  • Collaborate with related disciplines, industry partners, and communities
  • Pursue professional development that includes scholarly activities

Requirements

  • A master's degree in construction or a construction-related field from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university levels
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the written and oral use of the English language

Qualifications

  • A PhD or doctoral degree in construction or a construction-related field (receives credit for the equivalent of two years of professional construction experience)
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activities that contribute to the field of construction management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the written and oral use of the English language

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD or doctoral degree in construction or a construction-related field
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activities that contribute to the field of construction management
  • Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience in project management or a supervisory capacity
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment
  • A teaching specialization in one of the following areas, but not limited to: industrial construction, defense/marine facilities, renewable energy systems, MEP building systems, and data centers

Special Conditions

  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
