Assistant Professor of Clinical - Surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission of UHealth in achieving its role in providing medical education, research, and quality patient care.
  • Participate in international, national, regional and local activities within the health care industry, which impact the future role of the Divisional Surgical Areas funding environment.
  • Participate in Oral Surgery Service and residency training.
  • Serve in key activities for the Department of Surgery as agreed upon with the Division Chief.
  • Provide clinical care in all aspects of oral maxillofacial surgery.
  • Work collaboratively with the other physicians in the division.
  • Supervise residents both at the University of Miami/Jackson Health System and the Miami Veteran’s Administration Hospital.
  • Teach students in both junior and senior elective programs as sponsored by this Division within the students’ surgical experience.
  • Pursue protocols to fund experiments under their supervision.
  • Document all services in patient medical records.
  • Comply to Departmental Policy & Procedures & Hospital Bylaws.
  • Exercise final medical judgment in all issues of healthcare.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Adequate academic record.
  • Recognized teaching skills and expertise in residency, fellowship, and medical student training.
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper bedside manner.
  • Perform in tactful and professional manner.

Education Requirements

  • A DDS or DMD degree.
  • Completed a CODA-accredited advanced education program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and be board-certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS).
  • Completed a Fellowship in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery.
  • Florida Medical or Dental License and a DEA certificate.
