About the role

The Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology (WICMB) and the Department of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (BTS) at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine seek a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to establish an independent research program that translates fundamental insights into cellular and molecular mechanisms into therapeutic discovery. The institute serves as a hub for molecular life sciences, with strengths in cell signaling, morphogenesis, structural biology, mechanobiology, neurobiology, membrane trafficking, lipid metabolism, computational biology, protein networks, cell cycle, and DNA damage across microbes to humans. The department conducts cutting‑edge molecular and translational research in areas such as cancer biology, developmental biology, genetics & genomics, and reproductive sciences, and provides access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, single‑cell/spatial transcriptomics, advanced microscopy, flow cytometry, transgenic and patient‑derived models, etc.) and a vibrant graduate‑student community. The successful candidate is expected to teach in the pharmacology and/or physiology focus areas and to foster an inclusive, mentoring‑rich lab environment while building bridges between basic and clinical science and advancing animal health goals of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a dynamic, externally funded research program that uses fundamental cellular and molecular insights to drive therapeutic discovery and development.
  • Lead a vibrant research group, providing mentorship and career development for trainees while fostering an inclusive lab climate.
  • Establish a research arm that advances the animal health goals of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Build collaborative connections across basic science and clinical science departments within Cornell and with partner institutions such as Weill Cornell Medicine.
  • Teach courses in the pharmacology and/or physiology focus areas of the veterinary curriculum.
  • Contribute to departmental and institute service, including participation in graduate training and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: cell biology, structural & molecular biology, in situ structural biology, chemical biology, biomolecular engineering.
  • Ability to design and execute research aimed at discovering and validating disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets, including small‑molecule and biologic discovery/delivery, organoid and animal model development, and engineering of advanced targeted technologies (e.g., (epi)genome editing, protein degradation).
  • Commitment to mentoring, career development, and creating an inclusive research environment.
  • Experience or strong interest in teaching pharmacology and/or physiology at the graduate or professional level.
  • Record of or potential for securing external funding and leading collaborative research projects.
