Assistant Professor in Speech-Language Pathology

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in speech-language pathology with an appointment to begin in Fall 2027.

Responsibilities

• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in language development and developmental language disorders
• Engaging in a systematic program of scholarly research
• Actively participating in faculty governance that includes engaging in activities that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues and students
• Serving on department, college, and university committees
• Developing and improving instructional curriculum
• Providing academic advisement to students
• Producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure
• Contributing to and participating in the collegial life and development of the department, advising students, serving on committees, and participating in the broader university and disciplinary communities

Required Qualifications

• Doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field; ABD will be considered but must have doctorate completed before appointment date
• Earned or are eligible/expecting to receive ASHA CCC-SLP
• Eligibility for California licensure in speech-language pathology
• Knowledge/experience in child language disorders for teaching courses in this area
• Evidence of strong potential for research leading to the scholarly publications necessary for tenure

About the Department

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides instructional expertise from culturally and linguistically diverse faculty members in both clinical and academic curricula. We foster an inclusive environment in which students, staff, administrators, and faculty thrive. We strive to ensure all undergraduate and graduate students are developed with the tools and strategies they need to participate in meaningful and challenging learning opportunities, both during their academic programs and throughout their professional careers.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Communications was established in Fall 2017. Prior to becoming a department, it was the Communicative Disorders Program in the Department of Human Communication Studies. The department has been continuously accredited by the Council on Academic Programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology since 1971. We offer a robust undergraduate program with approximately 500 majors, representing a diverse and dynamic student body. In 2019, our graduate program transitioned to a cohort model, admitting 30 students annually to foster collaboration and academic excellence. The department currently consists of eight tenure-track faculty members with a wide range of expertise, one full-time lecturer, and a full-time director who oversees the Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Pay

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $6,781 to $6,917 per month. Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
