Assistant Professor-in-Residence in Professional Practice and Community Engagement [R0151725]

About the role

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Architecture invites applications for an Assistant Professor-in-Residence position in Professional Practice and Community Engagement in Architecture. This is a non-tenure-track, full-time academic appointment within the College of Fine Arts.

Responsibilities

• Support the school’s instructional and outreach missions through the delivery of professionally grounded coursework in architectural practice, including project delivery, ethics, and practice operations.
• Mentor students pursuing internships, licensure pathways (AXP/ARE), and career placement.
• Lead or contribute to community-engaged design studios and initiatives in partnership with local organizations, public agencies, and nonprofit stakeholders, translating real-world challenges into applied learning experiences.
• Cultivate and sustain industry and community partnerships to expand experiential learning opportunities and workforce development pipelines.
• Contribute to NAAB accreditation and assessment efforts through documentation of professional practice and engagement activities.
• Participate in applied research and School-wide initiatives that connect students to practice-based and community-centered work.

Requirements

• Terminal degree in Architecture from a professionally accredited institution as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
• Professional licensure in architecture.
• Demonstrated professional experience in architectural practice.
• Demonstrated evidence of engagement in community-based, public-interest, or applied design work.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a professional-practice context.

Qualifications

• Professional licensure in architecture.
• Demonstrated professional experience in architectural practice.

Skills

• Ability to teach and mentor students in a professional-practice context.
• Experience with community design practice.
• Familiarity with NAAB accreditation standards and processes.
