Assistant Professor in Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Disease

About the role

The Department of Biology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position focused on theoretical and quantitative approaches to the ecology and evolution of infectious disease. We seek an exceptional scholar to establish an externally funded research program investigating fundamental questions on the dynamics of infectious disease and host-parasite systems using mathematical, quantitative, or computational approaches. The position aims to deepen theoretical and mathematical understanding of infectious disease systems, with openness to collaborative research at any biological level (cells to ecosystems) and in any system (marine, terrestrial, freshwater). The research program should be broadly collaborative, include both undergraduate and graduate students, and complement existing strengths in theoretical ecology and evolution within the department and across campus.

• Center for Statistics and Quantitative Infectious Diseases (College of Medicine)
• Departments of Physics and Mathematics (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences)

The candidate will also have access to data management and analysis resources, including one of the nation’s most powerful supercomputers.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an externally funded research program in theoretical and quantitative approaches to the ecology and evolution of infectious disease.
• Collaborate with researchers across multiple disciplines and biological scales.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Contribute to the undergraduate curriculum in ecology and evolution.
• Develop specialized courses such as theoretical infectious disease biology and the evolution of pathogens.

Requirements

• PhD in Biology, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics or Biomathematics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Biology or Biomathematics.
