Position Summary

The Department of Geosciences at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of igneous/metamorphic petrology-mineralogy. The department offers a B.S. in Geosciences with several concentrations in geology and geography. The Department currently consists of 8 tenured and tenure-track geoscientists and has considerable facilities and equipment including state-of-the-art technical equipment in classrooms, rock prep lab, petrographic microscope lab, chemistry and analytical labs, and an SEM with EDS that will be available for the successful applicant’s teaching and research programs. Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in igneous/metamorphic petrology-mineralogy.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative curricula and educational technologies.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a robust research program in igneous/metamorphic petrology-mineralogy.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Geosciences, Geology, Mineralogy, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
  • Strong record of research in igneous/metamorphic petrology-mineralogy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Qualifications

  • Experience with state-of-the-art technical equipment in classrooms, rock prep lab, petrographic microscope lab, chemistry and analytical labs, and an SEM with EDS.
  • Experience with teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience with developing and implementing innovative curricula and educational technologies.

Skills

  • Expertise in igneous/metamorphic petrology-mineralogy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
